Statement re: City of Thunder Bay Recreation and Facilities Master Plan

After a review of the City of Thunder Bay’s proposed Recreation and Facilities Master Plan the Fort William Curling Club wants to clarify comments made in a recent media story that the curling club will indeed work with the City of Thunder Bay in relation to the recreation and facilities master plan and fully supports the recommendation to test the feasibility of adding curling to any new investment in community ice should it be decided it is not economically viable to maintain the curling club within the Fort William Gardens Complex.

The possibility of a new facility would be an opportunity that the board and membership of the Fort William Curling Club would be interested in should that prove to be the best scenario for the City of Thunder Bay and the members of the Fort William Curling Club. We look forward to working with the City of Thunder Bay in exploring the idea of a new, modern, fully accessible curling facility being added to an existing arena on the south side of the City. We would be supportive of the Delaney Arena site for a new club as opposed to the Port Arthur Arena location.
